M5-Globular Cluster - Serpens Caput
M5, at a distance of around 24.5 thousands light years, is one of biggest and most ancient globular clusters belonging to the Milky Way. An estimate of the average age is more than 12 billions year. Despite its very old age, in this cluster there are many blue young stars.
The apparent integrated magnitude is around 5.6 with an apparent size of 23' which means an estimate diameter of around 165 light years.
M5 shows a clear ellipticity
