NGC 4565 - edge on spiral galaxy - Coma Berenices
NGC 4565 is a magnificent galaxy in the constelation of Coma Berenices. It is a very big spiral galaxy - probably a barred galaxy - more luminous than M31. The distance is around 40 Million Light Years. In the picture is also very evident the warping of the long disk due probably to the gravitational interaction with the satellite galaxies like NGC 4562 and NGC 4565B. This galaxy is very rich of globular clusters. Up to now there have been already found around 240. The edge-on position allows the study of such globular clusters.
